Saturday Outfit Post

Today was a day of walking the Beagles, and trawling around the auto-jumble at the Ardingly Vintage & Classic Car Show, so reasonable sensible shoes and comfy clothing was in order.

As it was quite windy out today, I opted for a head scarf. You'll catch me wearing them quite a lot since the challenge!

These photo's were taken after a day of walking around, blown about and rained on, and somehow, very stupidly, I managed to lose my favourite belt today :( how can one lose a belt without realising?! So alas, I now no longer own a rather nice red and white striped belt with a big fat anchor on the front....I'm praying I'll find a replacement in a charity shop someday soon, as it was only from New Look last summer. Finger's crossed!

In 2 weeks time I shall be leaving this flat, and moving into a new one in Kemp Town. Slightly nervous as I do love this place, and it's fab being right in the centre, but the new abode will include a little garden/patio, which I am very excited about, and also a gorgeous art nouveau fireplace, so yay! But I do dislike the actual moving process, and my arms now being a complete mess (hence why the now permanent addition of some very fetching arm braces!) equals the poor Mister having to do all the work while I sit in a chair sipping on my bubbly......hmmm now that doesn't sound too bad after all! heh.

Much Love from Brighton,

This is how I feel like now! Poor old Beagles!

Adam Ant - Live at Concorde 2, Brighton

One of my 'to-do-before-I-die' dreams actually came true a few weeks back:

I FINALLY got to see Adam Ant....Live....On Stage..... IN FRONT OF ME!!!!!!! AAAAAHHHH!

*cough*cough*

Teenage silly me now out, lets get back to business.

Yes, I love Adam Ant.

I still remember the day mum and dad left me alone at home for an afternoon for the first time, and finally getting to have a secret rummage through my parents rather large collection of records and LP's. Oh yes...I was introduced to the 80's Punk/New Romantics Godfather, Adam Ant. Hidding in the back amongst the Pink Floyd, Jeane Michelle Jarre (seen him, tick!), Tangerine Dream, and Kraftwerk (tick, tick!) was a colourfully designed sleeve, with 'I love Adam' written by Aunt when she was younger,  of an Adam Ant record, Antmusic.

I fiddled around with Dad's record player, frightened stiff that I would somehow break it and then get a right old telling off when they got home. After about an hour of trying to figure out how to turn the bloody thing on, I heard joys of Adam for the very first time. Yes, I was an early starter! And still to this day, whenever I hear it being played (mostly in secret in my room) it takes me right back to that afternoon. Those double drums, his howling voice, his dancing... *swoon*.

I thought he had retired, suffering from ill health, and that I would never get the chance to see him play live. I yearned to hear him play live. Yes, bit sad, but I'm sure you all have a band you have always wanted to see and know what I mean.

So when I was told by my manager at work that Adam was playing in Brighton, I called up straight away, and was told.......SOLD OUT :( serious sad face here. My one chance and I'd left it too late. Not only that, but aforementioned Aunt also wanted in (it was her record after all ;) ) so I had let her down.

A few months later, living on with the guilt of being lazy and missing out, we went along to a boot sale, and I found, 3, yes 3 Adam Ant records! I always keep an eye out for them and have never ever found one in all the charity shops I have trawled. I got chatting to the store holder and it turns out he was the organiser of the gig Adam had played back in May, and that because he enjoyed it so much and was sold out, was coming back again in June! Woop! Straight on the phone to Dad, Aunt and the Mister, checked with them, then did the deed and booked tickets. And it was not a disappointment.

So Close! And yet so far heh
Can you tell how much I enjoyed myself? bluuuurrrry!

I thoroughly enjoyed myself,  and when he played THAT song, I did go a little bit nuts and throw myself around, but boy was it worth making a fool of myself. I don't think the Mister quite knew what he'd let himself in for. I had pre-warned him, and had asked him numerous times to paint the white stripe across his face, but he still refuses.

So yes, I finally got to do something I thought I never could, and will remember that night for years to come. If Adam goes on tour again, I highly recommend you go and see him. He is a true entertainer, and his voice has not faltered one bit!

For those of you who have somehow not come across Adam Ant before, here's a link to YouTube's Antmusic for you:

Would you like to see your Vintage Home in print?

The lovely Jo-Ann Fortune over at Vintage Brighton and Mat Keller from Southern Retro have teamed up to create an inspirational book on Vintage Homes in Brighton (and possibly slightly beyond!).

So, do you have a retro home, and want to show it off in all it's glory? Then get in touch with either of them! I'm certainly planning a shoot once the move to Kemp Town has been completed (roll on August!), and convincing Mat to re-do my photoshoot on the Southern Retro website. Go check it out, many a familiar face can be found, and Mat truly is a talented photographer! I cannot wait to show off my bar on print. If you haven't seen it before, here it is, hidden away in a corner of my room:

Go on, get in touch! They'll have to publish a second edition in no time!!

Brighton 1st SmugMug Event

I was asked to attend Brighton's very 1st SMUG photographic meet-up, and to play around being the model for the very talented Mr Ian Pack.

The SMUG meet-ups are designed to be an open-forum for photographers looking to learn new skills, and also as a networking event.

The 1st one was based on the idea of having a tutorial for studio lighting and using different lights and equipment. We started off with NO added lighting, and Ian gradually introduced a range of effects, gels and light positions to demonstrate their effect.

I really enjoyed myself, and picked up lots of hints and tips as well as meeting many many photographers and making new connections too!

I'm rather pleased with Ian's skills, and having seen how he managed to create them with just white, and later black backdrops, and the changes in mood depending on the colour of the gels.

Ian is hatching some plans for some collaborations in the not so distant future, and so far we have a pile of different shoots to get through, but we'll get there! What with house hunting and work, things have been rather hectic, but he is being ever patient with me and I trust in the coming weeks, once everything has settled again, that we will be able to crack on with it. Cannot wait to show you!

Looking forward to joining in future SMUG meets! If you are a photographer of any experience, professional or a hobbiest, get in touch with them. They hold meetings all over the world, and SMUG is actually also a very VERY useful tool for those who have a huge collection of digital photo's, as they offer unlimited storage for the fraction of other professional providers!

Thanks again to Ian and Kirstie Black over at Eclectia Studios in the Marina, who organised and hosted the event!

Much Love from Brighton

Off to Goodwood!!

Tomorrow we are off to the Goodwood Festival of Speed, my very first time!

It's going to be one heck of an early start (5.00am to be precise) but I am more than certain it will be well worth it :)

Will report back tomorrow, but I am in the process of writing up some short pieces in memory of female racing drivers who became the world's first women in their field.

As a little taster of what's to come tomorrow, here's a little shot of moi at the Goodwood Revival last year:
