Out and About at Nymans

So I'm meant to be posting about the Tattoo convention on Saturday, I know, but I'm just sorting a few bits out first, so I thought I'd post about this walk we went on with the dogs at Nymans in Handcross.

I've never been in the house itself, but the grounds are amazing. there are few different walks around, with waterfalls, woods, ponds...and we took a wrong turning and found a little house with a jetty in the pond...drool...

The Mister took some really good shots of the sunshine through the trees

And me and the dogs!

I promise the tattoo convention is coming soon, hopefully mid week!

Weekend Rumaging

Hello All!

so what have we all been up to this weekend?

This morning, the Mister and I had a little photoshoot with Mat at Southern Retro. Really looking forward to seeing the results, and it was lovely to meet him! You should go check out his site and see what all the fuss is about!

After about 20 cups of tea, I went down to Frock Me, at the Corn Exchange in Brighton, to see if I could find anything off my wishlist, and I did! 2 new pairs of stockings and finally found a bustier I can squeeze my behind into as well as my boobs! woop woop! this is a very rare thing in vintage undies, and my god, could they make the size labels any harder to understand?! this beaut (I know it doesn't look like much but its all about the shape!) is an old Marks & Sparks one, labelled as a 38B, but somehow fits even though I'm a 32DD....hmmm...not sure how that works. Does anyone maybe have a size guide for vintage undies?

Also bought this cute little brooch, perfect for those spring nautical outfits!

Popped in to see the lovely Miss Amy Phipps at Laste Shoe Boutique for a good old natter. She's come up with some cute designs you can find on her blog and has been telling me all about her plans for this year, and I for one cannot wait to see the creations she comes up with! She is a knitting and crochet machine!

Also, new glasses should be ready to pick up tomorrow, excited! I was a bad girl and hadn't had my eyes tested in 7 years, but thankfully my eyes have got no worse, but I get some lovely specs, and I shall be showing them to you in all their silvery glory as soon as they are mine!

(I came across these two in the North Laines and they instantly put a smile on my face! Nothing better than a dapper chap who can play an instrument, or two!)

Bonjour!

So I guess, with this first blog, I better introduce myself! My names Emma, but I go under the pseudonym of Lady Jardin, my Burlesque alter ego.

I've been living in or around Brighton for the past 11 years, and before that, I grew up in the South of Germany in a beautiful town on Lake Constance.

I've decided to create this blog, not just to keep myself motivated to keep creative and continue to explore new things, but hopefully to inspire others to go out and do the same, in their own little way!

So here goes:

My main interests are pretty much anything creative, exploring the countryside, and anything Vintage. I've also recently delved into the world of Burlesque for the first time, and although I'm still a novice, I really hope to be doing some more shows in 2011.

I love reading up about social history, especially local history, and feel drawn to go and explore new places whenever I get a chance to with the Mister. We've been going to Classic car shows every summer for the last 4 years, and although at first I was merely being polite and indulgining him in his hobby, I've grown to realise how much fun car shows can be for those without the expertise! I wont lie, I still haven't the foggiest which part of the engine is which, I'm still learning, but ask me a question on a Triumph 2000 estate, and I'm your girl! I just love the beauty of the design of Classics, and the effort that has gone into making them.

Our hope is that, by the summer, we shall have said Triumph 2000 and will be going on a European Road Trip for a few weeks, so keep your eyes peeled for news on Vintage and Classic Car Culture on the Continent.

I also do a lot of sewing and painting. My mum used to have her own kids clothes shop when we lived in Germany. She used to make most of my clothes for me, and gave me my first sewing machine at the age of 6, with which I would spend endless hours making teddy bears and clothes for my Barbies. I'd like to think I'd improved somewhat since those days, and no longer make miniature clothes, but full sized ones, inspired by a dentistry cabinet full of vintage patterns handed down to me by my Aunt a few months back. I'm always up for hints and tips, and learning new skills, so should anyone have some ideas, i'd love to hear from you.

The aim of this blog for me is not only to document how i get on with my sewing experiments and the odd painting here and there, but also to show others about the amazing culture we have here in Brighton and the surrounding area, and what we have to offer.

My first proper Blog will be about the 4th Annual Tattoo Convention in Brighton, which is happening in 2 weeks time, 28th-29th January at Brighton Racecourse. I will be going around, reviewing stalls and Artists, and showcasing some of the amazing Tattoos out there. If anyone else is going, let me know.

I'm hoping this is going to be the first of many, ma

ny blog entries, and that others will gain pleasure from this as much as I do writing it!

Much Love from Brighton
